So i spent about 3 hours today in Minecraft carefully constructing a titanic statue of the avatar of Notch, the creator of MineCraft, and while I was doing this I had a bit of a philosophical moment that I thought i would make today's blog topic about.
Basically the gist of this post is going to be based around this question, why do certain people deserve the right to have statues built in their likeness? Is it because of their deeds in life or because they knew the right people and made the right alliances that meant their likeness will be remembered for a long time after their death? Right from the get-go i guess i should say i don't know the answer to this question, i have my opinion on it and why we seem to favour certain people over others.
Lets start with my statue of Notch, which is in itself going to be part of a much larger temple that im working on at the moment and my reason behind doing this. The actual primary reason is sitirical in nature, because many people jokingly refer to Notch as the "god" of MineCraft as he is the original creator of the game and has done the majority of the coding on the game as well as deciding of its rules and limits and its aesthetics. For this reason i thought it apt enough to construct a temple to him, however i do belive there is a secondary undertone as to why i've build a temple to Notch and that is due to the fact that i respect him and the fact that he managed to get this small indie game and somehow managed to get the PC gaming community raving about, whether is down to his pure genius or knowing his consumers, who knows? And the same thing can be said of people who found valiently in wars and acheived other great things that mean they are deserving of statues.
However out in the real world, dictators and other foul and ruthless leaders set up statues of them to inspire fear in the subjected people of their respective countries and to make sure that they are remembered after they have died and their offspring have taken control and continue the abuse.
Question: Whats the coolest statue you've ever seen?
DFTBA
